Several of
the rooms within the House have been named after eminent individuals who have
had an association with the House throughout several centuries.
The Coey Room
Named in
tribute to Sir Edward Coey (1805 – 87), past owner of Merville House and the
only Liberal Party Mayor of Belfast.
This is the
largest room in the House, on first floor level. With an abundance of natural
light, this is a true multi purpose room, hosting visiting dignitaries for
conferences through to hosting art exhibitions, craft fairs and regular
sporting clubs.
The room
measures 16.5m x 8.5m approximately and has a capacity to host up to 100 people
for a seated event. The Coey Room is our very own “blank canvas”, which gives
you, the user, scope for introducing your own décor for your event.
The Rowan Room
Named in
tribute to Major John Rowan who lived in Merville House in 1822.
On the
ground floor, the Rowan Room is a beautifully proportioned space and is
situated within the fabric of the original manor house. The room is awash with
natural light and retains many of its original Georgian features, including
sash windows and an ornate fireplace.
The room
measures 8.5m x 5.5m approximately and has the capacity to host up to 40 people
for a seated event or reception. The Rowan Room is perfectly situated for our
civil wedding ceremonies and is also used for seminars, meetings and the weekly
meeting of the Merville Bridge Club.
The Robinson
Room
Named in
tribute to the distinguished entrepreneur, Frederick Charles Gunning Robinson
who acquired the property in 1924.
On the
first floor, the Robinson replicates the size and situation of the Rowan Room
below and in addition to its original sash windows, also affords beautiful
views over Belfast Lough.
The room
measures 8.5m x 5.5m approximately and also has the capacity to host up to 40
people for a seated event or reception. This room also has a variety of uses
and is further complemented by our gallery, which sits just outside the room
and provides an addition space for visiting guests.
The Board Room
The first
floor board room occupies a corner site within the original manor house with an
abundance of natural light and views over Belfast Lough.
The room
can be used for meetings of up to 12 persons and is equipped with a flipchart
and fax point. The room is also situated next to a kitchen for ease of use with
catering arrangements.
The Courtyard Atrium and Mezzanine
Located
under a stunning glass ceiling, the atrium boasts a sophisticated space ideal
for networking and informal gathering. It can also be used as a café space,
with bistro style tables and chairs and an adjoining fully equipped kitchen.
Overlooking
the Atrium, the Mezzanine area on the first floor also provides a casual
seating area, as well as a perfect space for exhibiting and networking.
The Entrance Hall and Gallery
The
entrance hall provides a grand welcome to all visitors to Merville House. The
Hall and upstairs gallery are filled with original features. The sweeping
staircase, dark panelling and oak floors are coloured by light flooding in from
the stained glass window with the gallery space offering views over Belfast
Lough.
